The Cyber Advisory Panel was formed as a sounding board for Nominet’s executive as the organization scales its cyber software into more governments and large organizations. They bring external expertise on the global cyber security landscape and are an excellent forum for impartial advice as we take our product and go to market strategies to the next level.
Brian Karney
Chief Product Officer at Monarx
Brian Karney has worked at the forefront of cyber security for almost two decades and holds industry and practical expertise including deep technical knowledge of incident response, threat intelligence, forensics, and e-discovery.
As Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Monarx, Karney is helping to deliver a new approach to detecting and preventing Linux web application attacks by living in the application stack. Prior to Monarx, he was SVP of Products at Fidelis Cybersecurity, responsible for the company’s portfolio of advanced threat defense solutions covering network, cloud, endpoint and threat research.
Karney joined Fidelis in 2014 following the company’s acquisition of Resolution1 Cybersecurity, where he served as Founder and CEO. Karney also served as President and COO of AccessData Group and as Director of Product Management & Product Marketing at Guidance Software. He also held Engineering, Consulting and Systems Management positions at CenterBeam, Network Associates, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Carmina Lees
Managing Director at Accenture
Carmina Lees is a Managing Director at Accenture within Financial Services, joining in September 2017. Prior to this she was at IBM for 19 years, her most recent role was the Vice President of IBM’s Cyber Security Business in UK & Ireland (UKI).
Carmina now leads the Financial Services Technology Consulting and Technology Advisory Practice for UKI. The focus is to help our C-suite clients articulate, plan and implement their transformational agenda. Focused on industry-specific (banking, capital markets and insurance) and function specific (Cyber Security, Cloud, Digital IT, AI, RPA Blockchain, and Legacy value creation) knowledge, skills, know-how and capabilities to each client's specific situation.
Carmina has always been an active supporter and ambassador for promoting the presence of women in IT since the start of her career. She is the Executive sponsor for Accenture Security Women’s Program across Europe, and leading the Inclusion and Diversity agenda globally for Accenture Security.
John Noble CBE
Non-Executive Director at NHS Digital
At the end of February 2018 John Noble retired from being the Director of Incident Management at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). In this role, he led the response to nearly 800 significant cyber incidents. Prior to joining the NCSC, John spent four years at the British Embassy in Washington.
During his 40 years of Government service, John specialized in operational delivery and strategic business change. For his work in creating effective partnerships in the run up to the London Olympics, he was awarded a CBE in 2012.
As a non-executive director at NHS Digital, John chairs the Information Assurance and Cyber Security Committee. John is a senior adviser to McKinsey.
Dr Steve Crocker
CEO and Co-Founder of Shinkuro
Dr. Crocker is CEO and co-founder of Shinkuro, Inc., a start-up company focused on dynamic sharing of information across the Internet and the deployment of improved security protocols.
Dr. Crocker has been involved in the Internet since its inception. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, while he was a graduate student at UCLA, he was part of the team that developed the protocols for the ARPANET and laid the foundation for today's Internet. He organized the Network Working Group, which was the forerunner of the modern Internet Engineering Task Force and initiated the Request for Comment (RFC) series of notes through which protocol designs are documented and shared. For this work, Dr. Crocker was awarded the 2002 IEEE Internet Award.
Starting in 2002, Dr. Crocker served as founding chair of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). He subsequently joined the ICANN board of directors, including serving as chair from 2011 to 2017.
Brian White
Senior Associate at CSIS
Brian leads the global security practice for DBO partners, a leading boutique investment bank. Prior to DBO, Brian served as a vice president at Forcepoint, which he joined following the acquisition of RedOwl, a security analytics firm. At RedOwl, Brian served as the COO and a member of the Board of Directors where he managed day-to-day operations, led all go-to-market activities including sales, marketing, customer success and finance, and drove the strategic direction of the business. During his time at RedOwl, Brian raised more than $30M in venture capital, led their expansion into the UK, and ultimately led the acquisition process which resulted in a sale to Raytheon/Forcepoint.
Prior to RedOwl, Brian was a partner of the Chertoff Group where he led their global advisory business and established and built out their San Francisco office. While leading the practice, Brian specifically focused on developing go-to-market strategy for venture backed cyber security companies, buy-side diligence work as well as assisting the A&D community in identifying early stage technology companies with applicability to the national security community. Prior to his time at the Chertoff Group, Brian led a $100M business development and strategy team for Lockheed Martin. Brian also served as a senior official at the Department of Homeland Security, where he concluded his tenure as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary. Other notable positions include serving as the Chief of Staff in the Office of Policy; and serving as the Congressionally mandated Director of Cargo, Maritime, and Trade Security policy. Brian also served as a Professional Staff Member in both the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives as well as an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton.
Brian currently serves as Senior Associate with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where he was a member of the Commission of Cybersecurity for the 45th President. Brian is a frequent speaker on cyber issues including regular appearances on Bloomberg Technology. Brian holds an MPA from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University; and a B.S. from Syracuse University where he was a Division 1 student-athlete.
James Stickland
CEO and Board Member of Veridium
James is CEO and Member of the board of Veridium, a Security Authentication platform company, where he is tasked with driving business revenue, investment, culture creation as well as leading the company’s global go-to-market strategy for its flagship solution, VeridiumID. Based out of the company’s London headquarters.
James has a deep history in technology and Financial serves having been one of the first Investment Director in HSBC’s Corporate Venture Fund. Here he was tasked with delivering Strategic Investments and bringing to life globally new technology and business services. While James focused on enterprise technology: (cloud, mobile, social, data and security), he also drove business strategy and investments for retail bank, private bank and markets/trading. James has worked with the global venture capital, large cap technology business development and financial strategy communities throughout his career, having spent 4 years at JP Morgan Chase working for the Global Chief Information Officer, delivering global corporate investment and retail bank technology strategy.
James began his career working for Motorola and spent a further 15 years working at IBM and Cisco: operations, sales and business strategy functions and has a proven track record of building, adopting and delivering technology which scales to the enterprise.
Mike Brown
President, Spinnaker Security LLC
Michael Brown, Rear Admiral, United States Navy (Retired) is the Founder and President, Spinnaker Security LLC, a cybersecurity consulting business focused on understanding, identifying and mitigating business risks associated with cybersecurity. Additionally, Brown brings executive leadership, including crisis management, from both public and private sector experiences. Just prior to this position, he was President, RSA Federal LLC and Vice President/General Manager Global Public Sector of RSA Security LLC. Responsibilities also included RSA Information Technology, Security and Enterprise Risk Management portfolios. RSA is part of Dell Technologies and formerly of EMC.
Brown joined RSA after a career of more than 31 years in the United States Navy. During his career, he had significant leadership positions within the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security regarding cybersecurity. Brown’s last position on active duty was as the Director, Cybersecurity Coordination for DHS where he was responsible for increasing interdepartmental collaboration in strategic planning for the Nation’s cybersecurity, mutual support for cybersecurity capabilities development, and synchronization of current operational cybersecurity mission activities for the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security. He also served as DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary, Cybersecurity and Communications, Acting Assistant Secretary, Cybersecurity and Communications and as the Assistant Deputy Director Joint Interagency Task Force for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Brown’s naval career included numerous staff, afloat and joint positions. He also had various leadership positions, including command of the Naval Information Warfare Activity. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, he also has a Master of Science in Systems Engineering (Electronic Warfare) from the Naval Postgraduate School, a Master of Arts in National and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and was a designated Acquisition Professional.
